INTERNET - We all use it , admire its usefulness and benefits to human race after its evolution. But do we know what is it -a tool or a capability to break limits, exceed boundaries and an opportunity to go beyond what is termed as 'impossible" ?
In simple and precise words , INTERNET is a worldwide interconnection of autonomous computers communicating via a network by transmitting data in the form of packets using some standard Internet Protocols (IPs). It is also termed as network of networks'. Lets get back a few decades to its evolution: The very first networking protocol was ARPANET(Advanced Research Project Agency NETwork) in October,1969 and it was one of the eve networks of today's modern Internet. The first TCP/IP wide area network was made operational by January,1983 when all ARPANET hosts were switched to TCP/IP from older protocols. The ability of TCP/IP to work over virtually any pre-existing communication networks allowed for a great ease of growth, although the rapid growth of the Internet was due primarily to the availability of commercial routers from companies such as Cisco Systems, Proteon and Juniper, the availability of commercial Ethernet equipment for local-area networking and the widespread implementation of TCP/IP on the UNIX operating system.
Internet brings a lot of functionalities including E-mail, World Wide Web(www), Remote Access, Collaberation, File Sharing, Streaming Media, Voice Telephony(VoIP). It can now be accessed even with mobiles and is widely used in chatting and PTP(Peer To Peer) file sharing. So, Internet is not just a tool but an opportunity.
